For experienced cyclists and true cycling enthusiasts, the route from Roselle to the Ombrone Valley is a must-see: 55 kilometers on paved roads that pass through some of the most beautiful villages in the province of Grosseto, allowing you to discover its natural and historical treasures.

The route starts at the Leopoldine Thermal Baths and then passes through the ancient village of Batignano, which overlooks the valley where the archaeological site of Roselle, home to the ruins of an ancient Etruscan and Roman city.
The route, which is all uphill, continues to Montorsaio, a small gem of medieval defensive architecture and a former outpost of the Republic of Siena.
From Montorsaio, the route continues to Paganico, the gateway to the Maremma during the centuries of transhumance, offering views of ancient churches and parish churches. The route winds up and down with varying gradients (from 5% to 8%, with a peak of 11%!) as it follows the contours of the Ombrone Valley all the way to the hamlet of Istia.
Along the way, you’ll also pass through Marrucheti, a tiny hamlet in the municipality of Campagnatico consisting of four houses and a bar arranged around a typical country church. If you’re in the area in August, don’t miss the famous Festival of Maremma Tortelli and Mushroom Soup, one of the most popular village festivals in the region.
